CELEBRATING 45+ YEARS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
In a day and age when many service clubs are closing down, what keeps one service club kicking after 40-plus years? Without a doubt, it’s the personalities and dedicated spirits of its members that make the club succeed.
Tampa East Sertoma is a versatile group of guys from all walks of life. Ranging in age from 35 to 85, they are an unlikely group in many ways, but they have something in common that binds them together – a desire to help others and give back to the community.
Giving back to the community takes many forms for these men, from volunteering physical labor, such as for Paint Your Heart Out Tampa or work days at Achieve/ Tampa Bay, to holding fundraising events throughout the year to support a number of other charitable organizations. Additional groups include the Bolesta Foundation, Hillsborough Association for Retarded Citizens, Sertoma’s Youth Ranch, Camp Endeavor, Safe Ears and God’s Pedal Power Ministry.
What makes this club different is that while they work hard to help others, they do it with laughter, tomfoolery and lots of genuine fun. The camaraderie and friendship the members share is special, and they all say it’s something they find nowhere else. No matter what the project or event, the members of Tampa East Sertoma give unselfishly of their time and abilities, and they enjoy every minute of it.
That’s the spirit of Tampa East Sertoma – have fun while helping others. For these guys, it doesn’t get better than that.
